Sten Johnson

(Trumpet)

Sten Johnson is a trumpeter, trombonist, teacher, composer, and arranger. His early musical life centered on classical music, but soon his range expanded to include jazz, Avant-garde, funk, fusion, cumbia, salsa, and merengue. He attended McNally Smith college of Music as a recipient of the full-tuition Diana Ross Scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with a B.M. in Trumpet Performance. At McNally Smith he studied with some of the Twin Cities’ finest musicians, including hornmen Dave Jensen, Pete Whitman, and Jim Marentic. Around the Twin Cities Sten has performed many great bands including Salsabrosa, The Jack Brass Band, K Libre 24, and Tropical Zone Orchestra. As part of his work in the Twin Cities Latin scene, he has also shared the stage with salsa and Latin music legends Grupo Niche, Grupo Gale, La India, & Sheila E.

Sten has been teaching trumpet, trombone, and French horn to beginning and advanced students since 2006, and believes that anyone can learn to play! He is a dedicated teacher whose aim is for his students to enjoy their instrument while reaching their playing goals.
